A Well Crafted Life

This weekend was needed. It was restorative and easy. Next weekend (actually, this whole week) is going to be GO GO GO. So, a laid back weekend was ideal. We had friends— Bee from The Spicy Bee and her husband, Kevin— over for dinner on Friday. Homemade pizzas, drinks, and lots of talking ensued. I think that staying at home with a toddler has made me starved for conversation. I don’t think I stopped talking on Friday. We made and ate THREE pizzas. Bee, being awesome, made a homemade dough and created a spicy, thin-crust pizza. I bought some pre-made dough to try in my cast-iron skillet with rosemary… YUM. And, I tried making a pizza on puff pastry. I liked the puff pastry dough  a lot… although, notice how poofy it got! Next time I’ll do the puff pastry, but put olive oil and a good sea salt on the pan so it cooks into the dough.

Saturday I printed out a few photos, put up curtains, and bought a rug. We’ve had essentially NO budget to work on our home. But, a few little pieces here and there and things are finally coming together. We’ll be doing some painting of furniture as soon as the weather is better. I’ll post photos if and when we finally get things together!

Sunday I spent the day making crepes! I used Food For My Family’s recipe/tutorial for crepes, but the batter made so many crepes that we had them for breakfast, lunch, and dessert on Sunday. They were delicious though, so I am not complaining!
I also picked out three clothing items to style for a Seven Days of Style challenge I am participating in this week and sketched out my ideas. I’ll post more about that tomorrow! If you want to follow along to see some cute baby/toddler styles during the week check out my Instagram profile @JenniBost  or the hashtag #7daysofstyle .

Happy Monday! I spent three days of last week as a solo-mama as my husband was in California for work. Of course, that meant that I had very little time this past week for the business of posting/working. It also meant that we packed our weekend full of events.

During our time of just the two of us, the kiddo and I both had visits to the salon to get our hair done. I visited Franny from Edward Wadsworth Salon for a much needed hair appointment. I haven’t had my hair done by a professional in years… she did a great job explaining the costs, color ability, and best cut options for my hair. She was the perfect mix of chatting and being quiet. Sometimes I really just enjoy resting and letting someone take over! She did a great highlight job on my hair! I’ll be seeing her again in 10 weeks for another lightening. Just in time for summer!

The boy visited Little Clippers in Lake Oswego. The place was AMAZING. It was like we were walking into an indoor playground. He was thrilled to see cars, slides, and lots of bright colors. I was afraid, from past at home experiences, that he would be too wiggly to get his hair done. Instead he was completely content the entire time! His stylist, Lolita, did an AMAZING job. She was quick and able to anticipate when he was getting bored or uncomfortable. We even hung out a bit after the hair cut so the little guy could enjoy the toys.

On Saturday we visited our friend’s home for little A’s first birthday. The rainbow themed party was just ADORABLE. And, all of the attendees wore their favorite rainbow colors. I can’t wait until I get back some of the better photos taken at the party so that I can share all of the fun details her mom put into the event.

Saturday evening I was able to meet-up with some awesome women for Creative Connection. Some fun collaborations are sure to come of this great event. Twenty Portland creatives in one room created such a buzz of energy. There was some major power-houses in that room! A big thank you to Margaret for putting it all together! Oh, and the cute decorations above will be on the blog later this week.

My weekend began on Thursday with a lovely Valentine’s Day! I mean… it was the BEST. My little guy and I hung out during the morning hours and met my husband for a delicious Japanese lunch at Koji Osakaya in downtown Portland. We love this restaurant for its authentic cuisine and great service. The little guy even managed to work his chopsticks a bit! While my husband went back to work the little one and I hit Playdate PDX for some good ole fashion playtime. I was certain that after 3 hours of playing hard on the Playdate PDX indoor playground X would go to bed early in the evening. But, alas…. he was not giving in! I made a steak for dinner and topped it with a spicy cherry salsa. SO GOOD. And, finally, the night ended off with a nice hot bubble bath with a glass of wine. It was the best Valentine’s Day I’ve had in a long, long time. What did you do for Valentine’s Day?
Lately I’ve been trying to make a point out of hanging out with just the ladies at least once a month. Friday night the hubby watched the kiddo while I went out to paint the town red with a few ladies. The night was an evening filled with delicious Paddy’s lemon drops, an amazing steak sandwich from the Realto, and a lot of laughs. The pictures above are at the end of the night when we started getting silly with our iPhone cameras. Jenn, of Pfaus Photography snapped the beautifully lit shot of us ladies being ridiculous with her iPhone… check her out on Instagram!
After such a busy couple of days we decided to hang out at home and be a little lazy. We played outside in our pjs, enjoyed homemade cauliflower-crust pizza, and chilled on the couch. I did get some new sketchs done and they’ll be heading to my Etsy shop soon!
