This post is a part of my new weekly Linky Party {Weekend in Review}. Each week I’ll share some of my favorite posts from the week before. Link up anytime from Monday to Saturday on each new week’s linky party with an Instagram photo, tweet, or blog post about your weekend! Life is a party… this is one way we are going to celebrate it!

Kat from Kat’s Almost Purrfect World shared a banner that she made for Easter! I’m sure it ended up being beautiful decor for this weekend’s festivities. I like the cute little tulips with vintage photos on them!

Kat’s Almost Purrfect World is a blog that features cute vintage inspired craft projects. A lot of the projects are perfectly timed with upcoming holidays.

Thank you Kat for sharing your weekend project!

I’m hoping to see a lot of great Easter filled weekends in this week’s linky party.
Please feel free to share the linky party with bloggers you know!

{Restaurants} Urban Farmer— Holy Cow!

Disclaimer: This post features a local Portland restaurant and PR company that invited me to a meal at the restaurant and a tour of their facilities. A post was not promised in exchange for the visit. I did receive the meal and tour free of charge. However, all opinions are my own. Warning, those who do not like images of meat should skip reading further in today’s post. Those who enjoy a good steak… be prepared to get very hungry!

A couple of weeks ago I visited Urban Farmer with other Portland food bloggers and a couple of representatives of Little Green Pickle PR company. Oh me, oh my… was it a fun night! I will try my best to summarize my evening and share only a portion of the many fun photos taken that evening. At the end of the post is a list of bloggers that I got to spend my evening with… check out their posts about the evening as well!

{Weekend in Review} A trip to Texas and Oklahoma

I was on vacation from last Tuesday to tomorrow… So, it feels like a gigantic weekend! Let me say though… vacation when you are a freelance writer and mom is not the same as when you take a vacation from a non-work-from-home job or school. I felt like I was ON the entire week and BEHIND the entire week. I’m so thankful for wonderful family who let me get some time on my computer and helped so much with my toddler. The week would have been impossible otherwise. And, it was so nice seeing family!

For some of my family this week was the first time they got to meet my son. And, for others, it was the first time they’ve seen him as a toddler. That part of the trip was amazing. I loved seeing how he responded to my (and my husband’s) family. I loved seeing how our families responded to him.

I hardly took any photos of the trip because I was entirely too busy catching up with friends and family  or wrangling a rambunctious toddler. But, below is a quick overview of my week via iPhone photos!

Row 1: 1. X and myself had the opportunity to meet a friend’s kiddo that we’ve only seen so far on Instagram. I had a good time catching up with his mom (a friend from high school/college years) while X his new pal played. X was cranky though….so, it was a quick visit. 2. My youngest brother got to meet his nephew for the first time… they look so much alike! 3. My sister and her husband watched the kiddo so I could have an evening out with my two BFFs from H.S. It was wonderful catching up!
Row 2: 1. One of my best friends from HS has an adorable 10-month-old boy…X loved hanging out with him! He pushed him around in the stroller. It might have made my baby rabies come back a tad. 2. My sister showed X how to play trombone. He loves music and had a blast in his aunt & uncle’s music room. 3. My sister (doesn’t look a thing like me) took me out to pedicures. SO NICE. It has been ages since I had a pedicure and my feet NEEDED it!
Row 3: 1. One of the restaurants we visited had a pool table and the little guy was enthralled with how my brother hit the balls. 2. It is hard sharing the bed with a toddler. 3. X got to meet some of my husband’s side of the family while we were in TX. Made me miss my honey!

{What a Weekend} Featuring Jenn & Kayla

This post is a part of my new weekly Linky Party {Weekend in Review}. Each week I’ll share some of my favorite posts from the week before. Link up anytime from Monday to Saturday on each new week’s linky party with an Instagram photo, tweet, or blog post about your weekend! Life is a party… this is one way we are going to celebrate it!

Today I am featuring both of last week’s entries into the {Weekend in Review} Linky party. They were both just too good to not share. I’ve already featured both of their blogs before on the {What a Weekend} Feature…. if you haven’t found their blogs yet, then here is another chance to go check them out!

Kayla, of Fit Life Forward, rocked the Shamrock run this past weekend and wrote about it in her 15K recap. This lady never ceases to amaze and inspire!

Jenn of the Elsewhere blog used her hot curlers for the above fabulous hair-do. Her weekend of bunco, an Irish bar on St. Patty’s Day, and a massage made me quite jealous!
Thank you both for sharing your weekends with us! I hope this weekend was just as fun. My weekend last weekend consisted of a trip to the Aquarium and lots of packing. Check back tomorrow for my weekend in review and the next linky party!

Disclaimer: This post is a sponsored post through BlogHerTV and Olay. All opinions are mine.

I’m an average, every day girl with a lot of interests. Part of my blog rebranding is to incorporate more of the everyday things in life worth celebrating. While I don’t consider myself super fashionable or trendy, I do love fashion, makeup, and hair-styling. You’ll be seeing more and more posts about fashion and beauty. I will still be posting plenty of parties… but, you’ll also get a little glimpse into the everyday (and special occasion) beauty and fashion secrets of an average lady. Hopefully they will inspire you or at least entertain. :)

Traveling with a Toddler

I’m worn out.

Today I started my 7-day whirlwind trip to see family in Texas and Oklahoma with just myself and the kiddo. I’m so excited to see family. But, the packing and actual travel was not something I’ve been looking forward to.

{Weekend in Review} Petting fish, Packing, & Prepping

After eating way too much delicious pie on Thursday I needed a low key weekend. And, though we got a LOT done, we didn’t DO much at all. I’m actually really looking forward to see all the fun {Weekend in Review} posts, Instagram pics, and tweets that are linked up this week. Someone out there had to have done something for St. Patty’s Day weekend!

Friday I went with some friends and my little guy to the Portland Aquarium in Milwaukie, Or. I didn’t go in with any expectations at all because I hadn’t really heard much about it. And, in all honesty, I have mixed feelings about the experience.

The good:

  • Hanging out with my friends and the kids while they were oohing and ahhing over the fish and sea-life was pretty awesome. My son was entranced. He loved every moment.
  • The staff was awesome. One guy in particular was so good with my son and comfortable in his job. He was holding a giant snake and I didn’t feel like fleeing… so, that is a bonus. I’d like to teach my son to be interested (safely) in things that creep me out. I was thankful there was someone there explaining about the snake and introducing it in a safe way to my son.
The not-so-good:
  • The price was fairly expensive in my opinion. My son was free (he is under the age that starts charging), but my ticket was $10 for a five room facility with two of its exhibits down. I also bought $5 dollars of fish feed… at the time I thought it was way too pricey for the amount given, but I had some left over still after visiting all the rooms, so I feel like that was probably pretty reasonable. And, the kids LOVED feeding the fish.
  • I was glad that they had hand washing sinks in several of the rooms. The floor was dirty. And, go figure, the place smelled like fish. I was in severe need of several hand washings.
  • I didn’t find this out until after visiting…. but, the owner of the Portland Aquarium has been in some pretty nasty legal issues lately. They are not involving the Portland Aquarium, but rather a similar facility in Boise. While I love the idea of my son and other children learning about wild-life. I feel like it should be in a completely legal, safe, and good-for-the-animal kind of way.
Did we have a good time? Yes. Will we go back? I’m not sure. I do hope that the staff gets the wonderful attention they deserve though. They were very good.
Well, I certainly didn’t mean for this post to turn into a review of an aquarium… but, that was the most interesting thing that happened this weekend! Saturday I was able to meet up with a friend to talk about life and the upcoming Pacific Northwest Blogger meet-up. I’m excited that details will be released soon! I talked more than any human should find possible. Talking to a toddler all day has done some wicked things to my social skills.
The rest of the weekend was spent working (writing) and prepping for my upcoming adventure back home to see family. Just me and the kiddo are going to brave flights to LA and on to Texas. Then a drive up to Oklahoma. We’ll be visiting friends and family in both TX and OK. Not sure how we’ll do it… but, I’m super excited about it!
Oh, and we can’t forget that we did a low key St. Patty’s Day celebration. We wore green, ate cabbage, and drank a bottle of beer. :)

{What a Weekend} Featuring Ashlee of Twenty Something Bows

First off….
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Wishing you a little Luck of the Irish today!
And now, back to regular programming…
This post is a part of my new weekly Linky Party {Weekend in Review}. Each week I’ll share some of my favorite posts from the week before. Link up anytime from Monday to Saturday on each new week’s linky party with an Instagram photo, tweet, or blog post about your weekend! I was super excited to see that someone celebrated with a party over the weekend last weekend. You know me… I have a party weakness!

Anyways, meet Ashlee of Twenty Something Bows! She submitted her Bachelor season finale party for last week’s {Weekend in Review} linky party.

Twenty Something Bows features Ashlee’s chalkboard drawings, paintings, mantels, and parties. Check out these great posts from Ashlee:

Thank you Ashlee for sharing with the

{Real Parties} Rainbow Themed First Birthday

The little lady that I threw the Woodland Baby Shower for last January is now one! Time sure flies… Her mom and dad pulled off an amazing Rainbow Themed First Birthday for her recently. I’m super excited that they are letting me share some photos of the event. This makes for a wonderful first birthday party. I also think some of the party details could easily be transformed into an awesome Wizard of Oz party or, with the addition of a bucket of gold, a great St. Patrick’s Day Party.

How do you follow?

I’m sure everyone has already heard the sad news…. Google Reader is going away. There will be some transition time… but, why not move things over now?

I’ve been reading everything on my cell phone (for the most part) through Reeder app. The Reeder app twitter feed calmed its many fans and said it was not leaving. However, they haven’t said really what they’ll be doing yet. So, if you’re a Reeder fan… are you staying on? I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to make the change seamless. Hopefully, I won’t lose my “starred” items in the process!

And, then… a lot of the people I know are heading on over to Blog Lovin. I hope that their servers were ready for a sudden influx of new followers cause HOLY COW. Everyone in my feed is talking about moving over to them. As a matter of fact, for now, go ahead and add my name to the list! I thought I’d at least try it out. But, for anyone who didn’t know… this blog has been on Blog Lovin’ for a while!

The change to Blog Lovin took a matter of seconds. You can easily import all of your Google Reader blogs right on over with a couple clicks of your mouse. I’ll be downloading the iPhone app and giving the whole thing a test run. I’m hoping to fall in love!

{Holidays} Happy Pi Day

Today, March 14 (3.14) is National Pi Day!

In honor of today we are having dinner with some friends and everyone is bringing pie! We’ll have an appetizer pie, main-course pie, and dessert pie to enjoy. I may bring a little mini pie just so we will eat 3.14 pies together— it just seems appropriate.

I’m super excited about the pie I am making. I’m in charge of the main course pie… Instead of making the oh-so-obivious (yet, loved) Chicken Pot Pie, I am making a Pork and Apple Pie with a Cheddar and Sage Crust. YUM.

{Giveaway} My momiform, a dapper dude, and a Cushe Giveaway

Disclaimer: I received a free pair of Cushe shoes to review for this post and one pair to give away to my readers. All opinions are my own.

Lately it has been a challenge for me to get dressed most days. I often opt for sleep rather than getting up and showering before my son’s very early waking hour. I wait until nap time to shower and change, unless I have work to finish. Embarrassingly often, I’ll still be unshowered and in my yoga pants until my husband gets home in the afternoon.

{Weekend in Review} Games, Clothes, and a Meet-Up

And, whoa… this weekend was a blur of fun! It was go-go-go and I am still recovering. So sorry for getting out my {What a Weekend} post and this linky party so late in the day!

Friday— The hubs, kiddo, and I hung out with our friends Joan and Brandon. Hubs bought me tulips for International Women’s Day. He is also brought some for my friend Joan! (He is a winner.) We played Cards Against Humanity and had so much fun. I’ve been wanting to play that game for FOREVER. It did not disappoint. I wouldn’t want to play with just anyone… but, with close friends it was fun.
Saturday– The sun was shining in Portland! YAY! I went by Bettie Page Clothing and tried on some beautiful clothing with my friends Bee and Macey. We each got to pick out an outfit to wear to the Portland Bloggers’ meet-up. It was fun trying on such classic vintage styles. I had such a great experience at the shop that I know for sure I’ll be going back again. I’ll be posting more about my dress when I get the pictures back from the event!

Sunday— The Portland Bloggers meet-up has been such a huge effort on so many people. I feel like the event was a complete success. I can’t wait to read everyone’s updates on the event, what they learned, and see the images that our photographers captured! I’m still exhausted and have tons of after event work to finish off. Today though, I just watched as Facebook and Twitter went crazy with fun updates!

What did you do this weekend?

Link up your posts/tweets/instagram pics of something you did this weekend.
I’ll share some of my favorites on Sunday for my {What a Weekend} feature post!
