{Weekend in Review} Shopping talk, Brunch, and Blogging Chat

Disclaimer: This post is not a sponsored post. However, I was invited to a compensated focus group at Favery (without expectations for posting). I was also invited to a free brunch at Imperial by the PR company Little Green Pickle. No promises of posting or positive reviews were given. No other compensation was provided. All opinions are my own.

Okay, so really….. all of the following things that I’m including in my weekend update really happened during the week. I spent Friday through Sunday working on my computer, so I didn’t take a single photo! But, my week was jam packed and super awesome.

{Weekend in Review} Working is hard when on cold medication

Happy April Fools! As usual, Google never disappoints!

I was so very sick this weekend that I did nothing at all except try my best to catch up on the mountain of work I had. BTW… writing while on cold medication is a joke. I felt like I was trying to write with half a brain. I’m pretty sure my editor thought I had half a brain while he was going over my work. Because I was so sick and basically chained to my laptop, I didn’t take a single photo of my weekend.

Today is of course April Fool’s Day. I’m loving seeing everything on Facebook today. The lovely ladies from Prudent Baby literally made me laugh out loud with their “How to Knit a Merkin” post today.

I can’t WAIT to see your photos/ posts/ tweets about this past Easter weekend. Remember, anything that YOU did this past weekend counts. Please share about this little linky party. I really want it to be used as a way to connect and share a little bit of our personal lives with each other. I’m all for new DIY items and parties (obviously) but, I want to get to know YOU and get a glimpse into your awesome lives. Feel free to link up an Instagram photo of something you did this weekend, a post about your weekend, or even a tweet that gives us a weekend glimpse!

Now… tell me all about YOUR weekend!
Link up your posts/tweets/instagram pics of something you did this weekend.
I’ll share some of my favorites on Sunday for my {What a Weekend} feature post!

Linky Party Suggestions:

  • Please add this button to your blog post, or somewhere on your blog, so others can see and share as well!
  • Check out the blog post of some of the people in the party and comment! Everyone loves a little comment love.

{Weekend in Review} Petting fish, Packing, & Prepping

After eating way too much delicious pie on Thursday I needed a low key weekend. And, though we got a LOT done, we didn’t DO much at all. I’m actually really looking forward to see all the fun {Weekend in Review} posts, Instagram pics, and tweets that are linked up this week. Someone out there had to have done something for St. Patty’s Day weekend!

Friday I went with some friends and my little guy to the Portland Aquarium in Milwaukie, Or. I didn’t go in with any expectations at all because I hadn’t really heard much about it. And, in all honesty, I have mixed feelings about the experience.

The good:

  • Hanging out with my friends and the kids while they were oohing and ahhing over the fish and sea-life was pretty awesome. My son was entranced. He loved every moment.
  • The staff was awesome. One guy in particular was so good with my son and comfortable in his job. He was holding a giant snake and I didn’t feel like fleeing… so, that is a bonus. I’d like to teach my son to be interested (safely) in things that creep me out. I was thankful there was someone there explaining about the snake and introducing it in a safe way to my son.
The not-so-good:
  • The price was fairly expensive in my opinion. My son was free (he is under the age that starts charging), but my ticket was $10 for a five room facility with two of its exhibits down. I also bought $5 dollars of fish feed… at the time I thought it was way too pricey for the amount given, but I had some left over still after visiting all the rooms, so I feel like that was probably pretty reasonable. And, the kids LOVED feeding the fish.
  • I was glad that they had hand washing sinks in several of the rooms. The floor was dirty. And, go figure, the place smelled like fish. I was in severe need of several hand washings.
  • I didn’t find this out until after visiting…. but, the owner of the Portland Aquarium has been in some pretty nasty legal issues lately. They are not involving the Portland Aquarium, but rather a similar facility in Boise. While I love the idea of my son and other children learning about wild-life. I feel like it should be in a completely legal, safe, and good-for-the-animal kind of way.
Did we have a good time? Yes. Will we go back? I’m not sure. I do hope that the staff gets the wonderful attention they deserve though. They were very good.
Well, I certainly didn’t mean for this post to turn into a review of an aquarium… but, that was the most interesting thing that happened this weekend! Saturday I was able to meet up with a friend to talk about life and the upcoming Pacific Northwest Blogger meet-up. I’m excited that details will be released soon! I talked more than any human should find possible. Talking to a toddler all day has done some wicked things to my social skills.
The rest of the weekend was spent working (writing) and prepping for my upcoming adventure back home to see family. Just me and the kiddo are going to brave flights to LA and on to Texas. Then a drive up to Oklahoma. We’ll be visiting friends and family in both TX and OK. Not sure how we’ll do it… but, I’m super excited about it!
Oh, and we can’t forget that we did a low key St. Patty’s Day celebration. We wore green, ate cabbage, and drank a bottle of beer. :)

Today I am featuring both of last week’s entries into the {Weekend in Review} Linky party. They were both just too good to not share. I’ve already featured both of their blogs before on the {What a Weekend} Feature…. if you haven’t found their blogs yet, then here is another chance to go check them out!

Kayla, of Fit Life Forward, rocked the Shamrock run this past weekend and wrote about it in her 15K recap. This lady never ceases to amaze and inspire!

Jenn of the Elsewhere blog used her hot curlers for the above fabulous hair-do. Her weekend of bunco, an Irish bar on St. Patty’s Day, and a massage made me quite jealous!
Thank you both for sharing your weekends with us! I hope this weekend was just as fun. My weekend last weekend consisted of a trip to the Aquarium and lots of packing. Check back tomorrow for my weekend in review and the next linky party!

{Friday Finds} Glitter, Party Circles, Pizza, Fashion, and Random Tidbits

Glittered Jewelry Dish Project via A Beautiful Mess

Today’s {Friday Finds} is brought to you by the letter R. R as in random. I’ve been trying to incorporate more of my life into this blog to go along with my idea (not original idea by any means) that life is a party and we should celebrate it. So, in that theme of things you’re going to get a peek into my very random brain. I’ve found these links throughout the week and wanted to share!

  • I love glitter. It is a problem. My husband does NOT love glitter. So, of course when I showed him the above jewelry dish project I could see the fear in his eyes. I think it is a great way to bring just a little bit of sparkle into the everyday. I’d use the project on a tray and put letters and/or pretty magazines in it. I think it’d be just BEAUTIFUL. I wonder if the glaze is hard to work with… anyone out there ever done something similar?
  • Every wondered what all you could do with the cupcake topper or party circle printables? I love this {Party with Paper} series that Hostess with the Mostess has included on their site! I also really like that they call the printables “Party Circles” as they do so much more than just top cupcakes! “How to cut a party circle {3 ways to use it}
  • Now that you know what to do with those party circles why don’t you stop by my “Free Printables” page and see what party circles I have made for FREE download.
  • Tonight I have some friends coming over for blog talk, beer, and homemade pizza. I’ve been playing around with crust recipes and have been drawn to the following recipes:
  • I have lot of fun dressing my toddler in cute clothes. (Check out my Baby Style posts for proof.) He is a stylish young kid… but, lately it takes a ton of effort to make me want to get either of us out of our pjs during the day. One of the Instagramers/bloggers I follow, Lauren Hartmann, did a 7 days of style challenge for her little girl and is now opening it up for others to participate. I thought it would be a good way for me to get the kid out of pjs for a week. One of the challenges is to take three items and style them throughout the week, which is great practice for my upcoming trip to Oklahoma with just me and the babe.
See… RANDOM.
I hope you found a link or two that interests you!
I’m excited for a fun, easy weekend. I hope that you get a chance to create a {Weekend in Review} post for this next week’s linky party! I’ll be sharing some of my favorites from each week.

{Inspiration} Spring Centerpiece

I’m SOOOO ready for Spring to get here.
I’m ready for flowers, gardening, Spring clothing, and some sunshine! I’m not looking forward to allergy season… but, my readiness for spring is overriding my fear of another sneezing season. In my desire for Spring to get here I decided to create some Spring-like centerpiece items. I used them as decor at the Portland Creative Connection event… now they sit on my diningroom table making me happy all day long. I think these decorations would be cute for any Spring event including Easter dinner, an afternoon May day celebration, or a Mother’s Day brunch.
