Well Crafted Fans: Party Backdrop and Mojito

I was so excited to receive a couple of photos from people who read “A Well Crafted Party” and used some of the inspiration they found here in their real life.
Heidi, from Illuminating Events, contacted me ages ago about the card backdrop I created for my Mad Tea Party a few years ago. I e-mailed her a few tips on how to create one of her own. She ended up creating a wonderful backdrop for her party and sent me some of the lovely photos.

It takes a Village: Solid Foods

Before having my child I was a much better parent.
I had great aspirations for what I would feed my son. I planned out (and wrote) a very detailed list of dos and don’ts for my family to refer to if ever left alone with the little guy.

9 Month Photos

Every month I take photos of my lil guy to document his growth.
I cannot believe he is nine months old.
Here are his photos from this month’s session.

This one was taken after he got changed into his pjs for the evening and dad was playing him some songs
Check out all the lil man’s Monthly Photos to see how much he has grown!

June Portland Bloggers’ Meet-Up

I’ve been a busy, busy bee lately getting things together for the next Portland Bloggers’ Meet-up!

The June meet-up is going to be a nice, casual family picnic for all the area bloggers and their families. I’m super excited about seeing all of the families together and meeting some bloggers in real life. I’m now dreaming up ideas for my family’s picnic food and yummy treats.
I also finished the second edition of the Portland Bloggers’ Newsletter…
if you are a Portland Blogger then e-mail me and I’ll send you a copy!
Like the Picnic Invite? Create your own with Eat Drink Chic’s free printable invite & The pretty velvet flower and leaves are from puglypixel.com
I think that if these keep going well then I am going to need to throw a “Meet Your Favorite Bloggers” style meet-up so that area readers can actually say “HI!” to bloggers in real life.
What do you think about that idea? Is it something you’d attend or take part of?

Restaurant Review: Nuvrei

I love finding new restaurants to try in the Portland area. I had never heard of Nuvrei until the Portland Blogger’s Meetup where we received a small gift card in our swag bags along with two macaroons. I love macaroons, almost as much as I love cupcakes. I love the bright colors and the great different flavors. But, let me tell ya, Nuvrei’s macaroons were the best I’ve had so far.

So, with an appetite whet for macaroons and a gift card burning a hole in my pocket I decided to visit the little shop located in the Pearl district of Portland. The bakery isn’t very large, but it is full of charm. The bright yellow chairs created an inviting dining area right outside of the cafe’s windows.

I brought my son in his stroller and it was very difficult to get around with him and the stroller. I couldn’t find an entrance that didn’t have stairs (although, I might have missed it). I also didn’t find the area very kiddo-friendly (no high chairs). But, the staff were so sweet to me and my wiggly little guy. And, my plan was to get my food to go anyways so it didn’t matter too much.

I brought two sandwiches, a cookie, and a macaroon to share with my hubby on his lunch break. I brought my adorable little white bag with a bright pink sticker out at the park and dug in. It was delicious! And, the hubby loved it so much he went back twice since then without me.

If you know him please tell him to at least bring me home a macaroon!

** Full Disclosure— Nuvrei helped sponsor the Portland Blogger’s event by donating items for the swag bags. In the swag bag I received macaroons and a gift card. While macaroons are a way to this girl’s heart they are not a way to get a review. I decided to review my trip to Nuvrei because I liked the restaurant and wanted to share it with you. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post.

{Friday Finds} Printable Goodness, New websites, and Inspiration

Printable Wine Tags from How About Orange
I haven’t done a {Friday Finds} in a while and I have a whole list of great party finds that I just have to share, if only to make more room in my queue of “items to share.”
Check out these awesome finds and, if there are any you love,
please share your comments with the great bloggers who have posted these awesome finds.
  • I’m not a huge fan of germs or doing a lot of dishes, which means I am a huge fan of wine glass tags. These free printable wine glass tags from How About Orange even have the added bonus of a cool wood grain and directions to make the tags reusable.
  • Party paper goods can end up eating a huge portion of the budget, but they can add so much pizazz to any event. Wedding Chicks have an amazing array of free printable party goodies that can really set your event (wedding, birthday, shower) apart for a fraction of the price that you would spend in the store. I really want an excuse to use the Man Men Inspired Save the Date cards that read “Madly in Love.”
  • Hey, and while I am talking about printables…. Chickabug has just come up with a fantastic idea of customizable water bottle labels with your choice of colors, fonts, and patterns. Thank goodness that not all parties have to be themed in order to find good printables out there. The labels are super affordable and can be customized for nearly any event.
  • Nicole, of Tradewind Tiaras, has created a party website to post all her amazing real party photos and tutorials, Tikkido.com. Oh, and she is also starting an online magazine with Frog Prince Paperie called Festivities. Busy and super talented lady! Good luck and Congrats Nicole!
  • I’ve tried making coffee filter flowers about a thousand times and haven’t really liked them…. but, this video tutorial (and amazing dye job) from Two Shades of Pink makes me want to try again.
  • The Busy Budgeting Mama is now selling customized look books to help you plan your next party. I was super excited to see my cake stand tutorial linked in the look book she posted as an example!
  • And, to leave you with a little inspiration… Summer is right around the corner and for me that means it is time for Picnics! Lauren, from The Little Things We Do, recently posted some real party inspiration for a picnic in the woods. Beautiful photos from Coeur de La Photography and event styling by Lauren!

Preview: Cocktails, Appetizers, & Real Parties

The week ahead is going to be post heavy…
get ready for it!
There will be cocktail recipes

Appetizer Recipes

a real-party post, a post featuring reader photos, great favor ideas and more.

But, today I have a very sick baby to go cuddle. So, my posts are taking a back-seat today.
I hope your week is starting off wonderfully!

Sick Kiddo

This weekend the hubby went on a business trip & the baby got a cold. He has been miserable with a moderate to high fever and lots of coughing. It just so happen to come right after his 9 month doctor visit. The doc said he looked great, he is developing wonderfully, and is a healthy, happy baby. Two days later and he is sick, sick, sick. Wishing there were doctors that came to my home instead…kiddo gets a cold after nearly every visit to the doctor’s office!
He has been extra cuddly lately though… And, it is good for a momma’s heart when she can comfort her sick kiddo.
I hope to be blogging back in full force starting tomorrow. If you want to read more from me check out my guest post over at A Fabulous Fete.

UPDATE 5/22: We brought the kiddo to the doctor today and he is a very sick boy. He had to have a breathing treatment in the office… so sad. He is being put on antibiotics and an inhaler. I hope so much that he gets better soon!

Cocktail Recipe: Classic Mojito

I was thrilled to be asked to guest post at one of my favorite event planning blogs, A Fabulous Fete! Congrats to Lauren who just got married and is now celebrating with her honeymoon.
Lauren asked for Summer entertaining posts and the first thing that popped in my mind was the refreshing and classic cocktail, a mojito.

It Takes A Village: A Parent Friendly Web

Parents have to make a thousand decisions everyday regarding their child from the day they find out they are pregnant. Some of the decisions probably won’t make a huge difference in the child’s life.
But, some will follow the child into adulthood.
There is SO much advice out there.
The whole “It takes a village” saying is really taken to heart.
Everyone seems to know best, you know?
How do you make a decision for yourself without offending everyone who did it a different way?
Don’t get me started with the people who know best and don’t have kids yet.
(Oh wait…I was one of those people just a year ago.)
I am struggling with just how very large the village is now-a-days.
The internet makes it just so easy to share opinions and advice. And, don’t get me wrong part of it is wonderful and amazing. When X is sick I go straight to the web to see how to deal with things.
I remember posting a Facebook update in the beginning weeks that read,
“How did parents do it before Google?”

But, the other side of the whole web thing confuses and frustrates me.
I am having a hard time dealing with all the advice and wondering if I am doing enough for my child.
Of course that brings me to the Time’s article on attachment parenting that has got the whole web in a tizzy. Motherhood and parenting is taken so very seriously. And, maybe it should be taken seriously… but, is one way really the right way?
Every parent I know (and, most parents out there) want to do the very best for their child.
There isn’t a handbook out there that fits every child.

My post is one of many posts from bloggers and mothers asking why can’t we all just get along. Has it really gotten to the point that we need to ignore the advice of even our friends?
Should we stop giving advice? Should we stay quiet about the decisions we’ve made?
I certainly don’t have the answers. I’m just trying  to be the best parent I can. I’m trying hard not to judge others and trying even harder to not take others decisions as reflections on my decisions.
This brings me to the start of a semi-regular series on parenting called “It Takes a Village.”
I want the series to be an open discussion for people to say what they do. I want it to reflect the many different ways things can be done. I hope that if in the middle of the night a parent is struggling with their baby not sleeping, or biting while breastfeeding, or peeing their beds they can Google and find an open discussion that might help them find the right answer to their problem with their child.

If this is a discussion that you would like to be a part of then I would greatly welcome your stories/advice. Please contact me and we’ll get to work on trying to make the web a more parent friendly place to be!
